ALEX BEYRODT (VOODOO CIRCLE, PRIMAL FEAR): “Every Guitar Player Can Play “Smoke On The Water,” But I Play It With Ian Gillan”

Voodoo Circle

The Circle Has Come Back Around

Voodoo Circle is the side project of Primal Fear members Mat Sinner and Axel Beyrodt. Together with vocalist David Readman (Pink Cream 69) the band released their debut self-titled album in 2008. Vocalist David Readman departed the Voodoo Circle after the release of their 2015 album Whisky Fingers. Readman was replaced by Herbie Langhans for Voodoo Circle’s 2018 album Raised on Rock. On January 15, 2021 Alex Beyrodt’s Voodoo Circle returns with David Readman on vocals and Markus Kullmann back behind the kit. The album is entitled Locked & Loaded [review] and will be released through AFM Records. I had the chance to speak with guitarist and founder Alex Beyrodt ahead of the album’s release. We had a great chat, but he couldn’t answer the most important question; who is the woman in the “Devil with an Angel’s Smile” video?

Highlights include:

  • Discussion of upcoming Locked & Loaded album
  • David Readman’s return to the group
  • How their former singer reacted
  • Who is that girl in the Devil with an Angel’s Smile video
  • His Rock Meets Classic project with Mat Sinner
  • Why playing in multiple bands is like driving a car
  • His guitar parts business
  • Is his band Silent Force done for good
  • … and much, much more!

Voodoo Circle is:

Alex Beyrodt – Guitars
Mat Sinner – Bass
David Readman – Vocals
Markus Kullmann – Drums
