Raised On Rock is the fifth studio release from Germany’s Hard Rock, Heavy Metal band Voodoo Circle, and the first to feature new lead vocalist Herbie Langhans. The current lineup features Langhans, taking over vocal duties from Pink Cream 69 frontman David Readman, founding guitarist Alex Beyrodt, founding bassist Mat Sinner, and drummer Francesco Jovino, all currently of the band Primal Fear. Raised On Rock very evidently pays tribute to its influences, with notes of Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow clearly heard throughout. Track 3, “Walk On The Line” is very reminiscent of “Crying In The Rain” by Whitesnake.

“Ultimate Sin” immediately calls to mind another Whitesnake classic. “Unknown Stanger” had a classic Depp Purple flavor. Langhans powerful voice is reminiscent of Ronnie James Dio, and Raised On Rock showcases his abilities very well. Each of the 11 tracks harkens back to the golden age of Hard Rock and Metal, and any fan of that period of music will feel at home listening. Talented performers, well written songs, and overall a well-produced record that captures that late 70s, early 80s vibe but with a modern production sensibility.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
