Crowned In Frost from Italy’s Frozen Crown is the band’s second album, and although at times it feels as though the creation of this album may have been rushed, there are still enough moments of brilliance on the release to push this band to new heights. With Frozen Crown’s debut, The Fallen King, being a relative success, it’s easy to see how this Power Metal act could have gotten ahead of themselves in the creation of an immediate follow-up release. Thankfully, the missteps are few, detracting only from a few tracks, and are more along the lines of technical issues rather than creative ones.

Songs like “I Am The Tyrant”, “Lost In Time”, “In The Dark”, and the blistering Dragonforcey sounding “Forever” have a thick, polished sound featuring some brilliant vocal work by Giada Etro. She sounds like she’s been doing her homework and there is a noticeable increase in her power and sonic focus on the album compared to The Fallen King. Oddly, the track “Neverending” is one of the weaker songs on the album but was inexplicably chosen as the lead single for this release.

Even though this album has its faults, it is still a strong step in the right direction for this band and should keep Frozen Crown’s momentum going. At this point though, the band could afford to take a bit longer before their next release, and hopefully they’ll take advantage of this and make the band into the truly great Power Metal act that it has the potential to be.
