The Verdict is the latest release from iconic American Progressive Metal Band Queensrÿche.  It is their 16th studio release, and the third to feature vocalist Todd La Torre.  Rounding out the lineup are founding members Michael Wilton, guitar, Eddie Jackson, bass and Scott Rockenfield, drums, along with Parker Lundgren, rhythm guitarist since 2009.   It also bears mentioning that La Torre provided drums for the recording, since Rockenfield was on hiatus at the time of recording.  La Torre demonstrates some serious chops, both as a drummer, and as a worthy replacement for classic era vocalist Geoff Tate.

The addition of a rhythm guitarist instead of a co-lead cuts a valuable piece out of the Queensrÿche legacy, however, as the trademark harmony solos are noticeably missing for the most part, and the lead guitar is overall decent but not remarkable.  The Verdict has a high production value, is sonically well done, and has some shining moments.  “Propaganda Fashion” has a killer chorus, and “Inner Unrest” captures some of the classic era vibe.  The Verdict weaves in and out of being Queensrÿche and trying really hard to be Queensrÿche.  There are some shining moments, and definitely some flat spots.  A worthwhile listen for Queensrÿche fans, Progressive Metal fans, and Metal fans in general.

Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
