Starting off 2024 with one hell of a bang, Swedish Melodic Power Metal veterans Metalite have come up with a very clever science fiction based concept album titled Expedition One that should delight fans. The fourth studio album by Metalite, Expedition One showcases the growth of the band in both production and musicianship. “In the past four or five years, our sound has evolved considerably,” explains Edwin Premberg, mastermind and producer of the band.

Epic Science Fiction

The theme of Expedition One is the story about life on our planet in the year 2055. The ‘transparent citizen’ has become a bitter reality, with physical and mental health conditions increasingly determining the course of our lives. Headed by five ‘commanders’, a renegade team consisting of former intelligence agents, military personnel and executives from a breakaway tech company plan an expedition to distant planets. Their mission: to transport mankind from our ruined planet to a new world, in the hope that new and better life will develop. Edwin Premberg adds “It’s about human evolution and the fact that we permanently go for the easy way out, even when it’s evidently not our best option.”

Final Notes

Metalite – Expedition One is an excellent concept album. With 16 songs clocking in at just over 67 minutes total, the album’s haunting songs take the listener on a musical journey filled with epic melodies, as intricate guitar work interweaves seamlessly with with catchy keyboard riffs. Erica Ohlsson’s lush vocals dominate the songs with melodies that are easy to sing along with, and have an uplifting effect. Metalite improves with each release, and Expedition One is so far the best of their four albums. Fans of Melodic Power Metal will have fun with Expedition One, and should start off 2024 with this new addition to their collection.

Bryce is an audio engineer and a graphic designer here at Metal Express Radio. From the day he purchased his first album (Machine Head by Deep Purple), he has had a passion for heavy music, which has influenced his whole life. Bryce is from the great Pacific Northwest in USA, and has played in metal bands like Babylon, Holy Terror, The Wild Dogs, Warhead and Egypt through the 80s. He had his first interview for the Portland, Oregon publication The Rock Rag with guitarist Paul Gilbert in his Racer X days. Then he was honored to get to have drinks, and talk for an hour with the legendary Dan McCafferty of Nazareth for his second interview. In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
