Sonic Warfare

From the year 1985 came one of the heaviest and most influential Thrash Metal bands from Germany, and Kreator have never looked back. With the release of their 15th album titled Hate Über Alles (translates to Hate Above All) they have shown that not only have they continued to thrive, but Kreator sound more aggressive and powerful than ever. Founding singer and guitarist Miland ‘Mille’ Petrozza continues to lead the band towards the future, with the addition of French bassist extraordinaire Frédéric Leclercq (ex-DragonForce, Sinsaenum), guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö and drummer Jürgen ‘Ventor’ Reil.

Conquer and Destroy

While many bands have been creating under the ‘lockdown’, Kreator had the new album recorded and ready to tour in 2020. Founder Miland ‘Mille’ Petrozza explains:

“Most of this album was ready by the end of 2020 and we were supposed to tour in 2021, but then we moved everything back,” he summarizes. “I’m glad we did because that allowed more fine-tuning. I can actually see the positive aspects of these crazy times – it’s allowed us to explore themes even deeper and come up with something monumental. That was the focus point for this album, treating our music almost as therapy. We’ve missed playing. We took all of that emotion and put it into the final versions of these songs – and you can hear it. Hope, anger and power… it’s all there.”

As to the bands longevity and ability to stay fresh, Petrozza continues:

“We still like to challenge ourselves, I guess that’s what it comes down to,” says Mille, when quizzed on the secret to their longevity and flawless credentials. “Every time we make an album, it feels like the first one. We take our time, it’s important to have something to say rather than releasing things just for the sake of putting out something new. Quality always over quantity. Why put out meaningless, boring albums? I’d rather build on the essence of what I’m trying to say and what I want people to feel. That’s why we sound so angry and edgy.”

Final Notes

Unlike Metallica, Kreator have never lost their focus on what their music should be, and Hate Über Alles proves it 100%! The album kicks you in the face full throttle, and never lets up. Every song rips and tears it’s way into your brain, making you want to jump up and mosh. Few bands from 1985 could stand up to mighty Kreator then, and amongst those other Thrash Metal bands, Kreator stands atop the heap in 2022. This album is a must own for Trash Metal fans, with an incredible mix, and songs that deliver on every level.

Bryce is an audio engineer and a graphic designer here at Metal Express Radio. From the day he purchased his first album (Machine Head by Deep Purple), he has had a passion for heavy music, which has influenced his whole life. Bryce is from the great Pacific Northwest in USA, and has played in metal bands like Babylon, Holy Terror, The Wild Dogs, Warhead and Egypt through the 80s. He had his first interview for the Portland, Oregon publication The Rock Rag with guitarist Paul Gilbert in his Racer X days. In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
