Schenker Forever!

Few musicians are able to have a career spanning 50 years, yet still have the vitality and drive to keep improving and remain relevant. Michael Schenker is one of the few guitar legends that still has it all.  With the release of his newest Michael Schenker Group album: Immortal we see an artist that just keeps writing great songs, while working with top musicians all across the Heavy Metal spectrum to create great music.

Timeless Heavy Metal

Michael Schenker is no stranger to working with a variety of artists on his albums, and Immortal brings us the vocal talents of Ronnie Romero (Rainbow), Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple) and long time friend and co-writer Michael Voss. Immortal has a cast of players that reads like a Heavy Metal all-star team as Barry Sparks (Dokken) adds his considerable bass guitar talents to the album, with Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Dead Daisies) drumming the majority of the songs. Legend Simon Phillips (who played drums on the first Michael Schenker Group album in 1979) joins Michael Schenker Fest regulars Steve Mann and Bodo Schopf, but there’s more!

Favorite Tracks

The album opens with “Drilled to Kill” which features Ralph Scheepers on vocals, as Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater, Sons of Apollo) has a keyboard/guitar duel with Schenker that starts the album off with a bang. Joe Lynn Turner does an excellent job on “Don’t Die On Me Now”, as the song feels like an instant classic MSG song. The track that best celebrates Michael Schenker’s 50th year making music is his re-recording of his first composition “In Search of the Peace of Mind”. The song was originally recorded for The Scorpions first album back in 1970, but on Immortal we have a more sophisticated rendition with Gary Barden, Doogie White and Robin McAuley adding their talents to Ronnie Romero to give us a new classic.

Final Notes

Michael Schenker has aged like the finest Heavy Metal wine. He continues to deliver great albums, while working with a diverse group of all-star talent. From his time in The Scorpions to legendary recordings with UFO that helped to make Heavy Metal what it is today, Michael Schenker is still going strong with Immortal. The album has everything an MSG fan could ask for, and a whole lot more. For every Heavy Metal fan out there, add this to your collection!

Bryce is an audio engineer and a graphic designer here at Metal Express Radio. From the day he purchased his first album (Machine Head by Deep Purple), he has had a passion for heavy music, which has influenced his whole life. Bryce is from the great Pacific Northwest in USA, and has played in metal bands like Babylon, Holy Terror, The Wild Dogs, Warhead and Egypt through the 80s. He had his first interview for the Portland, Oregon publication The Rock Rag with guitarist Paul Gilbert in his Racer X days. Then he was honored to get to have drinks, and talk for an hour with the legendary Dan McCafferty of Nazareth for his second interview. In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
