Return To Eden is a brilliant return to form for Timo Tolkki’s Avalon. Much more guitar driven than the previous album, Angels Of The Apocalypse, but still a concept album, this metal opera features a fantastic cast of well-chosen vocalists. Compared to the relative disaster of last year’s Three Tremors album, Return To Eden is an example of how to use multiple vocalists to full effect, with majestic results. The title track in particular is wonderfully executed.

The powerful vocals of Todd Michael Hall are used heavily on this release, and although he does not contribute to every track, his laser-focus singing style threads a connecting path through the album.

Fans who may have felt that the previous Avalon material was a bit too soft will be pleased with the crunchiness of Return To Eden. Also, this release stays true to its sound and Stratovarius roots and steers clear of the Disco Metal style that is currently on the up-swing. Any fan of Classic Power Metal will enjoy this.
