TONY MILLS – Beyond The Law

Tony Mills, longtime vocalist of bands such as Shy and TNT, is one of the few singers who’s solo releases often outshine those of the bands he performs in. Beyond The Law is his latest solo release and is a wonderfully catchy and fun AOR album along the lines of his early work with Shy. Although not as heavy as some of his other solo efforts like Vital Designs (2008) or Over My Dead Body (2015), Beyond The Law still features his stratospheric vocal range and skillful songwriting and arrangements.

Tracks like “Beyond The Law” and “Running Guns” are instant,  full-steam-ahead Hard Rock classics, while other songs, such as “Black Sedan” and “Crackin’ Foxy” are energetic throwbacks to the fondly remembered 80’s Glam scene. Through it all, Mills’ voice and the overall album production shines brightly. Beyond The Law doesn’t blaze any new trails, but then again, no one expected it to and for most fans, Tony Mills is simply delivering exactly what they wanted. This album features stronger material than any of the TNT albums he was involved in, and it even stands up well to the best Shy albums, many of which are now considered cult classics. Bravo for Mills and Beyond The Law.
