Viva La Rock is the third solo album from prolific bassist and vocalist Marco Mendoza. Mendoza is currently also a member of the American Rock band The Dead Daisies, and has been a member of Thin Lizzy, Blue Murder, Whitesnake, the David Lee Roth Band, and many, many others, with a discography of over 40 major label releases. In short, Mendoza know his way around a bass. Viva La Rock is a quintessential rock and roll record, filled with riffs, hooks, and great performances. The album kicks off with the title track “Viva La Rock”, a fast paced groove, and Mendoza’s voice is a great fit for this particular brand of Bluesy, Groovy Rock And Roll.

Soren Anderson’s guitar work is appropriately blazing but stays nicely in context of the songs. Morten Hellborn’s drumming lays out a nice pocket, and his hard hitting style drives the trio’s sound. “Burned” has a great laid back, sleazy kind of groove, and the cover of Ted Nugent’s “Hey Baby” is a definite highpoint as well. “Chinatown” features guest vocals from Mike Tramp of White Lion fame. “Leah” is Mendoza’s tribute to his wife, and has an almost Beatles quality to it. Overall, very well done, and almost over produced, and while lyrically some of the songs are a little cliché, an enjoyable listen for and Rock And Roll, Hair Metal, and Bluesy Rock fan.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
