Can the world use another AC/DC derivative?  When it’s done as well as .44, hell yeah.  For their third release, Switzerland’s Worry Blast crafted an album bringing together the riffs and song structures of AC/DC, the vocal delivery of Nashville Pussy with a touch of Mötley Crüe sleaze.  Sonically, Worry Blast stays in a comfortable mid-range without any painfully high vocals, guitars or cymbal crashes.  The heavy wall of rhythm is mixed to provide punch in all the right places.

The album starts off shaky with an unnecessary spoken intro referencing guns and grave digging.  Thankfully, it’s brief, and “Outta Nowhere” fires up with frantic hook-laden riffs and a chorus you’ll sing along to without invitation. “Dirty Mind” follows with more of the same to punctuate the party vibe.  The title track rounds out the opening three song salvo with a riff homage to AC/DC’s “Inject The Venom” before veering off into intermittent blue collar riffs akin to “War Machine” from Black Ice. After three straight highlight songs to start the album, the remaining seven songs are a mixed bag. “Party Downtown” is a gem buried late in the album which could have been a lead track.  It begins with a menacing plod before breaking into a heavy jog punctuated with a lyrical party prescription which captures the band’s mindset.  “Drink It All” and “We Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll” close the album with cliché lyrics which decent riffs can’t rescue.

Worry Blast cites influences such AC/DC, Airbourne, and Krokus.  Much like these bands, .44’s song structures, riffs, and lyrical content are crafted for immediate gratification.  Highly recommended for fans of the genre.

About Zac Halter 174 Articles
Zac was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio, hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. His interest in heavy music began in the 70s with his father’s Johnny Cash albums. After cousins introduced him to Steppenwolf, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, KISS, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Johnny Cash didn’t stand a chance. The 80s were spent in full pursuit of everything Metal: searching for new music at record stores, listening to albums, studying the covers and sleeves, and attending concerts. In the 90s, he preferred Death Metal over Grunge and hosted the Death Metal Juggernaut on WUPX in Marquette, Michigan. It was advertised as the only prime time Death Metal radio show in the country.
