South America has produced some fine Power Metal bands over the past 2 decades, but perhaps Argentina’s best kept secret is the Traditional Metal band Helker.  Somewhere In The Circle is Helker’s 4th release, which was produced by Primal Fear’s Mat Sinner and includes guest appearances by Ralph Scheepers and Ripper Owens.  There’s plenty of solid and enjoyable Metal throughout this release to sink your teeth into, but Dio-esque singer Diego Valdez comes through too strong in the mix, and his overly extended high notes tend to drown out much of the top-notch playing by Leonardo Aristu and Mariano Rios.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
