( vote)Progressive Heavy Metal fans will be pleased to hear the new album from the new Spanish band After Lapse – Face The Storm. The band was initially formed in 2018 by drummer Roberto Cappa, keyboardist Pablo Sancha, and guitarist Arturo Rodríguez who had all previously played together in the band “Delyriüm” for several years. The addition of Jorge Escudero on guitars and bassist Javier Palacios in 2021 completed the lineup, and After Lapse was born.
About the Album
Over the course of 2021 and well into 2022, After Lapse kept writing and recording music for what would become their debut album Face The Storm. When Frontiers Music Srl was passed demos that the band was working on from their management company, they were thrilled with what they heard and moved quickly to sign the band for the release of their first record.
Upon listening to the album, one is instantly reminded of early Dream Theater by the catchy guitar riffs in different time signatures, and the excellent vocals of Rubén Miranda. The band knows how to integrate soft passages with dramatic changes, all the while keeping the melodies in the forefront. The songs are all really well put together, with the title track being the favorite of this listener.
Final Notes
It’s always great to discover a new band in your wheelhouse that has the chops, melodies and high production standards that After Lapse bring to the table. Face The Storm is all of that, and a little more. With 11 songs coming in at just under an hour you get what you pay for, and fans of Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Pain Of Salvation, Haken, Kamelot and Angra will find this to be right up their alley. After Lapse – Face The Storm is a very strong debut for a band that we hope to hear a lot more of, so give it a listen, you’ll be glad you did.
