Swedish Christian Metal Soars

Although technically a new band, Sweden’s Flames of Fire is made up of Metal veterans, all coming together to create the tight, well written album: Flames of Fire. Longtime friends vocalist Christian Liljegren and guitarist Mats-Åke Andersson came together in 2021 to create their music of faith, bringing in multi-instrumentalist and producer Jani Stefanovic (Solution .45, The Waymaker, ex-Divinefire) to produce and co-write the album. Rounding out the lineup is guitarist Stephen Carlson and bassist Per Schelander, giving the band the twin guitar attack they needed, and the rock solid bottom end that anchors their sound.

Twin Guitar Attack

Flames of Fire gives us 8 songs and a short instrumental intro, coming in at just under 38 minutes. Right out of the gates “Gloria” hits hard with a nice galloping, harmony guitar tune that harkens back to earlier Iron Maiden. The title track “Flames of Fire” is a bit more commercial sounding, with a more pop approach to the vocals that work well over the layered guitar work. With the song “Madness” the band returns to the twin guitar galloping themes that worked great on the opener. The album was self-produced, and mastered by CJ Grimmark (Narnia).

Final Notes

The self-titled album from Flames of Fire is a good listen. The music is well written, well performed and has great production values. The lyrics get a bit heavy handed as far as religious content goes, so if that’s an issue for you just listen to the music and enjoy with the notion that we all sing about what’s important to us personally (or whatever strikes our fancy). Overall a very strong first release by a very talented Christian Metal band that’s more than worth a listen.
