Power Metal On Fire

After 20 years, multiple lineup changes and 7 studio albums, Finnish power metallers Burning Point are back with a new singer and a new album titled Arsonist of the Soul. Founding guitarist/songwriter Pete Ahonen has re-tooled the band with singer Luca Sturniolo, guitarist Pekka Kolivuori (ex-Agnus Dei, ex-Diesel Bunny), bassist Jarkko Poussu (ex-Dragon, ex-A.R.G), Tuomas Jaatinen (Dark Flood, Menial) on drums, and Matti Halonen (Mournful Lines) on keyboards.

Bringing The Heat

Arsonist of the Soul shows us that band leader Pete Ahonen has not only great songwriting skills, but an ear for great talent, delivering an even heavier, catchier album than 2016’s The Blaze. The album was recorded at Helgate Studio, and produced and mastered by Juanne Huotari who has done a great job at getting a classic Power Metal sound, while keeping it modern. Weighing it at just under 50 minutes, the 12 songs are an easy listen with such great melodies, killer guitarwork and a tight rhythm section all coming together to make a super release.

Final Notes

Burning Point is one of those bands that seem to have a knack for getting better over time, as each album seems to top the last. Arsonist of the Soul continues in this trend, and has a lot to offer the fans of not just Power Metal, but Melodic Metal as well. Overall, a worthy addition to your Heavy Metal collection, and a band to keep an eye (and ear) on. Support the bands you love by buying the content.

Bryce is an audio engineer and a graphic designer here at Metal Express Radio. From the day he purchased his first album (Machine Head by Deep Purple), he has had a passion for heavy music, which has influenced his whole life. Bryce is from the great Pacific Northwest in USA, and has played in metal bands like Babylon, Holy Terror, The Wild Dogs, Warhead and Egypt through the 80s. He had his first interview for the Portland, Oregon publication The Rock Rag with guitarist Paul Gilbert in his Racer X days. Then he was honored to get to have drinks, and talk for an hour with the legendary Dan McCafferty of Nazareth for his second interview. In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
