Traveler hit the ground running with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2018. Its release spawned tours through Europe, the United States, and their home country of Canada. The band wanted to keep their Speed Metal / Classic Metal fires burning in 2020 by releasing their sophomore effort Termination Shock. Traveler approached the writing of the album like they did their first demo, “with no exceptions, simply writing for the pure sake of enjoyment.”

“Shaded Mirror” is introduced by the blustering wails of vocalist JP Abboud. The track’s momentum is guided by the dual guitar attack of Matt Ries and Toryin Schadlich, as well as Abboud’s echoed melodies. Drummer Chad Valier sets a faster pace on the sci-fi/horror roller-coaster “Termination Shock.” Ries and Schadlich try to out solo each other during the instrumental break.

The medieval tale “Dairy of Maiden” starts off with bass and drums blazing, but softens with passionate vocals. The track gallops along but builds to a fiery display of guitars. As “After the Future” kicks off, you get a sense that Traveler are going to put on the brakes for a traditional metal power ballad. They shatter that notion halfway through. The band continues their fascination with outer space on “Deepspace.” The song barrels along like a rocket breaking the atmosphere on its way back to Earth.

If you could give classic 80s Metal a reboot, it would sound like Termination Shock. Traveler look to the past to deliver a modern version of the fast paced, first pumping, head banging Metal that dominated the 80s.
