Side By Side is the 5th studio album from Manchester, UK based Melodic Metal band Absolva. formed in 2012 by Iced Earth guitarist Luke Appleton and his vocalist brother Christopher Appleton, Absolva has toured the world supporting such acts as Saxon, Michael Schenker, and Y&T.

Absolva is a great mix of Melodic Metal and an unmistakeable NWOBHM influence. Side By Side includes 10 new tracks, and 2 covers, “Two Minutes To Midnight” by Iron Maiden, and “Heaven And Hell” by Black Sabbath. While including 2 covers is an unusual choice, both are delivered admirably, and both songs fit nicely with the overall aesthetic of the album.

The NWOBHM influence is palpable on many of the tracks, with hard-driving rhythms and aggressive vocals, while still delivering big hook choruses. “Living A Lie” is a prime example, along with the opening track, “Advocate Your Fate”, and the title track, “Side By Side”. Even the most laid back song on the record, “From This World” still packs a punch.

Overall, Side By Side is a very solid, well-produced album. Fans of Absolva, Iron Maiden, NWOBHM, and Melodic Rock will definitely want to check out Side By Side.

Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
