The Great Conspiracy is the latest solo release from Astral Doors /Lion’s Share/ex Civil War vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson. The album is a concept album about the murder of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986, which is still unsolved today. There are hundreds of theories about who the perpetrator was, whether it was a lone madman or a grand conspiracy. Johansson has been dealing with this case intensively since 2016. He is supported by the Swedish writer and founder of the podcast Palmemordet, Dan Hörning.

The Great Conspiracy follows the most important clues and also develops Johansson’s own theories about the assassination. Musically, the album stands in the tradition of his previous releases as the frontman of Astral Doors, classic hard rock / heavy metal with a hint of power metal. To round out the lineup of musicians, Johansson recruited Lars Chriss on guitar, Andy Loos on bass, Kay Backlund on keyboard, and his son, Fredrik Johansson, on drums. Additionally, The Great Conspiracy features a duet with Håkan Hemlin of Nordman, the track “Freakshow Superstar”.

The record release is scheduled to coincide with the date of the assassination, February 28. Fans of Astral Doors and Johansson’s other projects will certainly enjoy this latest effort, along with Melodic Metal, Power Metal, and Melodic Rock fans.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
