Featuring the impressive vocal chops of Jorn Lande, Norwegian Traditional Metal act Jorn’s new studio album Life On Death Road is a welcome blend of catchy vocal licks, shreddy axe work, tight drumming, and polished, modern — yet organic — sounding production.

Fans of Primal Fear will be happy to see that three fifths of that band appears on Life On Death Road. Alex Beyrodt, Mat Sinner, and Francesco Iovino all bring their A-game and although this material is not quite as heavy as Primal Fear’s, their talents lend the songs a masculine, punchy, aggressive vibe.

Some well-placed synth elements add a fresh touch to an otherwise traditional, heavy Rainbow-esque sound. The uptempo tracks like “Fire To The Sun” and “Devil You Can Drive” deliver some quality headbanging material, while the slower tracks like “The Optimist” and “Dreamwalker” let Lande explore the musical space a bit more.

All things considered, Life On Death Road is a traditional and very, very well done release.
