War Beast, Legion’s 2nd album, will appeal to fans of old school, New Wave of British Heavy Metal such as Judas Priest, Angel Witch, Raven, Warrior and early RIOT. Although the album captures the essence of the NWOBHM style perfectly, the release suffers from a lackluster production quality, most notably on the drum sound and guitar tones. This is really a shame, considering that there are a number of excellent songs, including “On The Pale Horse”, “Gypsy Dance” and “Future Passed”, as well as a rock solid vocal performance by Ralph Gibbons.

While diehard fans will still enjoy the heartfelt delivery and passion of this album, it comes off sounding like a mid-’80s remastered disc, which when compared to other current-day releases within the same genre, doesn’t hold up well.
