Rated X is the latest Frontiers Records supergroup, headed up by the vocal talents of Joe Lynn Turner and the prowess of iconic drummer Carmine Appice. Also joining the party are bassist Tony Franklin (Blue Murder) and guitarist Karl Cochran (Ace Frehley). The objective was to resurrect Classic Hard Rock sounds in the vein of Turner’s Rainbow era … and by and large Rated X is successful in doing just that. Appice’s drums have a “warm” (but fat) thunder surrounding them, and Turner sounds as good as he ever has. Overall, a definitive blast of the past worth checking out.
