Jon Oliva is one of the most important progressive musicians of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, and his visions made reality via Trans-Siberian Orchestra changed Christmas forever (from a musical standpoint). After a few side projects, the maestro has released his first solo record under the name Oliva, entitled Raise The Curtain. It’s a very emotional and personal album that Jon’s always wanted to make (and includes tracks started by Jon’s late brother Criss), however, there’s more Progressive Rock and ‘70s-influenced Rock here vs. Progressive Metal or even Hard Rock.  A good compilation … but not for everyone.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
