Cauldron, with their debut release, Chained To The Nite, gives fans fine and well produced Traditional Heavy Metal. These young warriors give a new kick to a style rather old within the legacy of Metal. Since the early days of Metallica and Iron Maiden, many acts worldwide followed the path of Heavy Metal. With Cauldron, fans see a new generation, very energetic and very much alive, with a mission to continue that old, rich legacy.

After an EP, which goes by the name of Into The Cauldron, and with an appearance in the Heavy Metal Killers compilation, Chained To The Nite is the first full-length album from this young group. Cauldron consists of only three members: Jason Decay – bass and vocals (of the late Goat Horn), Ian Chains – guitars, and Chris Rites – drums. Together with their production manager, Neil Kernon, and his superb mixing / mastering skills, they created a great album that is of true worth to any listener and collector.

This album is a well aimed shot at the very essence of Heavy Metal. The spirit of these exploding riffs is indeed young and hungry for tradition, which inspires the crossfire of guitars, armed with dangerous distortion, and massive drumming that leads on the charge. Cauldron’s template includes well combined music with simple, catchy, and very effective riffs that keep on crushing the listener’s ears. Sadly, the vocal lines fall short and it is drowning under the machine gun loudness of the rhythm section. It seems that Jason Decay does not have enough power and depth within his voice to join this full-scale attack. However, the cavalry arrives to save the day in the form of well balanced and well performed solos that light up the band’s nasty attitude to the scene.

Highlights from this release include, (prepare yourself for sheer heaviness with many energy spikes): “Young and Hungry” and “Conjure The Mass” – both are very good demonstrations of young and enthusiastic spirit. The catchy riffs, the choruses and the classic beats really do the trick. “The Leaven / Fermenting Enchantress” is yet another great track… its solo is well constructed and it blends well nicely with the rhythm. Also, Jason does a good job with the vocals. “Dreams Die Young” is probably the best song on this release, heavy and energetic. The lead guitars add the right amount of melody and demonstrate good technical control.

Chained To The Nite is a great example that keeps on proving that true 80s Heavy Metal never died and never will. Cauldron found their own way to present themselves as a new, promising act of the generation in the realm of 80’s style Heavy Metal. Hopefully, this line of great Metal music will continue with many successful future demonstrations. Stay Heavy! Stay Metal!
