Released in good time before Christmas, Live in São Paulo is Sepultura recorded live in their home country at the end of the Roorback tour.

The loud Brazilian four-piece didn’t actually rest when this compilation went through the mixing board, they were then recording what was to be their album of 2006. Live in São Paulo is the proof that Sepultura is a sound explosion live, and with the excellent Derrick Green in front, they can’t go wrong. He delivers with such energy and rawness, and he bashes out new and old from their almost 20-year spanning catalogue.

“Apes Of God” starts the 21-track extravaganza, and they follow up with the first visit to their golden years with Chaos A.D.‘s “Slave New World.”

This live collection is comprehensive. If you have been a fan for a long time, and you are into old school Sepultura, “Innerself,” “Beneath The Remains,” and “Escape To The Void” is right up your alley. Of course, delivered with such strength as can possible be on Live in São Paulo.

If you’re a freshman, then you could easily jump around and completely ruin your living room to “Sepulnation,” “Come Back Alive,” and “Choke.” And, if you have the DVD that comes with it, you’ll see a lot of Brazilians going mental on TV as well.

To conclude, Live in São Paulo is a definitive collection of great material performed on a very good day for the Brazilian quartet. In fact, they have released neither a full live album nor a compilation yet — so there you go.

Songs from their whole career are performed on a high level. One could wish for a better sound on a live album, but on the other hand, it’s a good thing that it comes through without that much tampering of the original recording. Fans want it raw, energetic, and like a punch in the nose. Here’s 21 punches that will make your nose bleed for months …

Now go on and do your bashing. Heads up!
