DARK HOUND – Dawning

Nashville—a city well-renowned for its legacy of Country music, the Grand Ole Opry, the CMA awards, and top-shelf Metal. Wait, what? Not yet, anyhow, but if Dark Hound can capture the listeners that they deserve with second album Dawning they’ll muscle a greater share of the musical space in a town known more for black cowboy hats than black leather (Johnny Cash excepted). Dawning assaults with a confidence, swagger and sound akin to bands from Savannah, Georgia, the southern U.S. city with perhaps the most well-established and vibrant Metal scene of the past few decades. Like Savannah bands Baroness, Black Tusk, and Kylesa, not to mention the other Georgia juggernaut Mastodon, Dark Hound rocks with a very modern Metal sound that combines elements of Thrash, Psychedelia, and straightforward Metal, launching forward with virtuosic musicianship, odd tunings and ever-shifting time signatures. All these blended elements keep listeners in a heightened state of near-breathless anticipation, both from the constant barrage of heaviness and because one is never quite sure where the music is going next—songs could veer off from a quiet interlude or a solid Thrash pocket into a fiery dual guitar solo at the same time the drums downshift, or an edgy riff that forms the entire foundation of the songs opening and first verse could be entirely abandoned by the second. Listening to Dawning, one gets the sense that Dark Hound are both exploring uncharted territory while at the same time presenting a sound that has been carefully, painstakingly crafted over time—a thrilling and disorienting experience. DARK HOUND – Oceans

Dark Hound is a newcomer to the Metal scene from the Country Music Capital of the world:  Nashville, Tennessee, USA.  But, make no mistake — these guys don’t have shit-kicker boots in their repertoire.  Nope, these guys know how to ROCK as shown on their debut EP entitled Oceans.  Dark Hound’s sound is most along the lines of Traditional Metal, but they have a little villainous behavior and attitude embedded in their music.  When listening especially to the lyrics as sung by ET Brown, you’re apt to hear a little Alice Cooper in there … check this one out!
