Daniel was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. Iron Maiden’s Piece Of Mind wasn’t the first Metal album he owned, but it was the one that lifted the lid off his soul when he received the record as a gift on his 15th birthday. He's been a Metal fan ever since. He's probably best known as the author of various Young Adult novels such as the Generation Dead series and the ghost story Break My Heart 1,000 Times, now also a major motion picture entitled I Still See You, starring Bella Thorne. Writing and music, especially Heavy Metal music, has always been inextricably linked in his mind and career. His first paid gig doing any type of writing was for Cemetery Dance, where he wrote a horror-themed music column called Dead Beats, and when he was writing the first Generation Dead novel he had a ritual where he started his writing day with a Metal playlist that kicked off with “Crushing Belial” by Shadows Fall.

GODS OF SILENCE – Neverland

September 25, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

Gods Of Silence’s album Neverland, is a pleasingly muscular offering of Melodic Metal fare with Progressive inflections, deriving much of its strength from singer Gilberto Meléndez epic voice and emotive delivery. Metal purists who disdain …READ MORE

DYNAMITE – Big Bang

September 18, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

The first track on Dynamite’s third album Big Bang is “March On (To The Beat Of Your Drum)”, an odd command from a band that is very clearly marching to the beat of AC/DC’s drum. …READ MORE

SILIUS – Hell Awakening

September 14, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

The title of Silius’s first album is Hell Awakening, and if that proclamation is true, then undoubtedly it is the hundreds of riffs on the album that is kicking Hell’s denizens out of bed. Riffs, …READ MORE

CATS IN SPACE – Scarecrow

August 31, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

Scarecrow, the second album from Britain’s Cats In Space, has the band sounding like they left the planet around 1980 just before MTV started up and made the sort of Proggy Power Pop they play appear …READ MORE

ARCHANGE – Flashback

August 20, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

Flashback, the title of the debut album from French band Archange, almost certainly refers less to the title cut as it does the sound the band evokes, a faithful mixture of Dokken, eighties-era Scorpions, Kix, …READ MORE

EXIT EDEN – Rhapsodies In Black

August 13, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

If all the beautiful voices truly exited Eden, would it cease to be a paradise on earth? Rhapsodies In Black, the debut album from Exit Eden, has an interesting concept—eleven Pop cover songs given a …READ MORE

KICKIN VALENTINA – Imaginary Creatures

August 8, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

Kickin Valentina, in a better vanished time—say 1987—would be riding their second album Imaginary Creatures to Arena Rock stardom. The album would produce two top twenty singles, “Turns Me On”, a gut-punch rocker grabbing the …READ MORE

SHADOWSIDE – Shades Of Humanity

August 2, 2017 Daniel Waters 0

“I decide to not accept defeat”—laudable words that kick off the chorus of “Make My Fate”, the hard-hitting fourth cut from Shadowside’s new album Shades Of Humanity. The follow up track “Insidious Me” starts out …READ MORE
