Melodic Metalcore band Lightworker are set to release their sophomore album entitled How The Beautiful Decay on April 19th. The band’s vocalist Joe Calderon took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about the upcoming album, working with the special guests on the album such as Kyle from Fallujah and Steve from Wolves at the Gate, their current tour with Eyes Set To Kill, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Your band, Lightworker, are set to release a new album entitled How The Beautiful Decay on April 19th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Calderon: It’s got a couple of guest spots on it that we’re really excited about. Kyle of the band Fallujah and Steve of Wolves of the Gate make appearances on our song, “Mea Culpa”. We’d like to think that this album is a little heavier than our first record overall, though there’s still plenty of parts where folks can sing along with. We’re extremely proud of this record, and we hope you dig it, too!

MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your second album with the band?

Calderon: Easily the most difficult batch of songs we’ve ever been a part of – and not because we disagreed or argued – It was solely because of the circumstances our lives were surrounded by. However, it’s also the most proud of we’ve ever been of any record. Beau Burchell and Daniel Gailey were a pleasure to work with again. They’re great guys and friends!

MER: How would you describe this to your first album entitled Fury By Failure?

Calderon: We took what we learned from being on the road and applied those things to the songs. We think it’s a little faster, a little heavier, and catchier than our first effort. I think How the Beautiful Decay will set us on the course for more of those things in the future.

MER: You’ve released three songs from the album, what kind of feedback have you received?

Calderon: People really seem to love “First Light” which we were equally pumped to share with listeners. “Burn Scar” has definitely brought out the metal heads and folks who like guitar solos. “Evergreen” has been warmly received, particularly by those who like heavier “ballads” and songs about romantic relationships. We couldn’t be happier with how well people have been receiving the new tunes!

MER: You’re currently on tour with Eyes Set To Kill, how has the tour been so far?

Calderon: We LOVE Eyes Set to Kill. They’ve taken us under their wing so to speak, have watched us nearly every night, and are such fun folks to hang with. We hope to do it again soon!

MER: What do you see as plans for you and the rest of your band after your tour with Eyes Set To Kill?

Calderon: More touring! We’re trying to hit all the corners of the US with the release of this album and its release cycle. Can’t wait to hang with old friends and new!

MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?

Calderon: We hope to tour with anyone and everyone. Some of the best folks we’ve met has been through touring and hanging out with other bands.

MER: Where do you hope to play live and why?

Calderon: Europe! Because either we haven’t been or we haven’t been and played music there. Plus, we have some listeners across the pond we’d love to hang out with!

MER: How is the music scene in San Francisco?

Calderon: It’s thriving! You’ve got everyone from Fallujah, Snuffed On Sight, Spite, and many more that are absolutely crushing it!

MER: What are your hopes for your band’s future?

Calderon: To continue having fun and meaningful conversations with our listeners and friends on the road. There are so many amazing folks out there and we can’t wait to break bread with ‘em all!
