Canadian Progressive Metal outfit ONI are set to release their third album entitled The Silver Line on October 13th. ONI’s frontman Jake Oni took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about the upcoming album, working with Howard Jones (Light The Torch, Killswitch Engage) on their single entitled “Aura”, hopes to do a headlining tour for the record, and more. Metal Express Radio: Your band, ONI will release their third album entitled The Silver Line on October 13th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?
Jake Oni: The upcoming release has the best songs I’ve ever written up to this point. Fans can expect a lot of catchy melodies on this record.
MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your third album?
Jake Oni: The writing and recording was as easy as it comes! Josh Gilbert and Joe McQueen are total pros. Writing and recording with them is always an amazing experience. They really take my vocals to the next level. I can’t say enough about these guys and I’m honored to call them my friends.
MER: How was it bringing in Howard Jones on the song “Aura”?
Jake Oni: Having Howard feature on “Aura” was a natural fit as he is a good friend of mine. I was so stoked to have him on a song like that singing like he does.
MER: How was it working with Josh Gilbert of Spiritbox as the album’s producer?
Jake Oni: Working with Josh is always great, to expand on that, we have a way of writing hooks that just works. We pick up vibes from each other and collaborate in a way that I haven’t with anyone else.
MER: Is there anyone you hope to collaborate with that you haven’t yet and why?
Jake Oni: I would love to collab with Noah Sebastian from Bad Omens. I feel like our voices would fit really well together on a track.
MER: What do you see as plans for yourself and the band after the album release?
Jake Oni: After the release of The Silver Line I hope that ONI can pick up enough steam to hit the road as a headliner.
MER: Who do you hope to tour with that you haven’t yet and why?
Jake Oni: I hope to tour with Spiritbox as Josh is in that band and it would be cool touring with him.
MER: What have been some of your favorite releases of 2023?
Jake Oni: Watch the World Burn by Falling In Reverse is one of my favorite releases of 2023.
MER: What have been some of your favorite memories since the band’s formation?
Jake Oni: My favorite memories playing music is the feeling I get when I write a good song.
MER: Out of ONI’s three album’s, what is one you would suggest to a new fan and why?Â
Jake Oni: For fans just getting into ONI I would suggest listening to this new album, The Silver Line as it is the future of the ONI sound.
