Melodic Hard Rock veterans Ten have released their 15th studio album, this one the second from the Covid down-time sessions in which they also recorded 2022’s Here Be Monsters. Following the success of the recent string of albums, Hughes was joined once again by guitarists Dann Rosingana and Steve Grocott, along with bass player Steve McKenna, keyboard maestro Darrel Treece-Birch and guest drummer Markus Kullman (Sinner, Glenn Hughes, Voodoo Circle).

About the Album

Something Wicked This Way Comes was produced by Gary Hughes and mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward. The record has slick production values, and as to be expected of veteran Hard Rockers: huge melodies and anthemic choruses. The band is very good, and the vocals are all very sing-a-long friendly. The keyboard parts stick in your head, setting the intended moods. Gary Hughes vocals are solid and smooth, and anchor the band’s sound.

Final Notes

When first seeing the album cover art, the expectations were for something a little heavier. The album is put together well, and some of the songs are a little soft for this reviewer, but certain tracks like “Parabellum” really hit home. It doesn’t feel like anything new or ground breaking, but is a nice listen for fans of the genre. Overall, if you are a fan of Melodic Hard Rock, then it’s worth checking out.

Ten band hoto.

In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
