Swedish Duo Hits Hard

When former bandmates in H.E.A.T. vocalist Erik Grönwall and songwriter/producer/multi-multi-instrumentalist Jona Tee got together to record New Horizon (a project originally slated to have multiple guest vocalists), they rediscovered their passion for working together and decided to create the entire album as a team. The songs Jona Tee had written for the debut New Horizon album were a match made in hell for Grönwall’s versatile voice, and so a new band was formed and Gate Of The Gods was created. The album is also graced with guest appearances by such heavy-weights as Robban Bäck (Mustasch), Sam Totman (DragonForce), Love Magnusson (Dynazty), Dave Dalone (H.E.A.T), Niko Vuorela (Temple Balls), and Laucha Figueroa.

Heavenly Metal

Jona Tee describes Gate Of The Gods as “a mix between classic Power Metal and Heavy Metal, with a touch of 2021.” On being reunited with Jona Tee, Erik “Power” Grönwall adds “It felt so natural to continue working together. We have toured together pretty much all over the world and released music together for a decade. Jona is truly like my brother, by blood, and New Horizon will be the catalyst for us to release great Metal together and just have fun”. The album offers 10 tracks of tight Heavy/Power Metal that comes in at just over 49 minutes, making for a near perfect listening experience. From “We Unite” with it’s high powered 6/8 timing and grand choruses to the ultra heavy “Stronger Than Steel”, the album offers some serious punch that leaves you wanting more.

Final Notes

Jona Tee and Erik Grönwall have created something very special with New Horizon – Gate of the Gods. Every song has great energy, amazing production values and sizzling performances by all. With a very good mix of Classic Heavy Metal and Power Metal they have hit on a winning formulae to knock your socks off. If this is any indication of what’s to come from this duo, then fans are in store for a lot of great music to come. Gate of the Gods is definitely in the running for top 11 albums of the year for this reviewer. Buy the CD, download the album, whatever it takes to own this one and you’ll be proud to have it in your collection, and make sure these guys can continue to make great Metal.

From the day he purchased his first album (Machine Head by Deep Purple), he has had a passion for heavy music, which has influenced his whole life. Bryce is from the great Pacific Northwest in USA, and has played in metal bands like Babylon, Holy Terror, The Wild Dogs, Warhead and Egypt through the 80s. He had his first interview for the Portland, Oregon publication The Rock Rag with guitarist Paul Gilbert in his Racer X days. Then he was honored to get to have drinks, and talk for an hour with the legendary Dan McCafferty of Nazareth for his second interview. In 2013, he spent an amazing hour talking to Andi Deris of Helloween, which was the high point of his heavy metal journalism.   In the year 2001, he formed Man in Black Music Publishing. They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia. Currently, he is the producer/creator/vocalist of the Metal band The Black Tuesdays.
