This Friday’s Guest DJ: PLATENS (DARIO GRILLO)

Dario Grillo

PLATENS is a Metal project from Italy. The brainchild behind it is the talented vocalist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Dario Grillo.

Dario started with the guitar at the age of six. Years later he entered the “Vincenzo Bellini” conservatory in Palermo to further his technique and music skills. In 1998 he joined the well-known Power Metal act Thy Majestie. After two studio albums and one EP recorded with the band, Dario felt the need of exploring new musical territories. This happened with PLATENS, a new musical Rock journey where he plays all the instruments. Debut album, Between Two Horizons, was released in 2004.

Among 2004 and 2009 Dario was been very busy in his activity as songwriter, producer and composer: working with many Italian talented singers and musicians, writing jingles for local TVs and composing a whole soundtrack for an original Italian movie. At the same time he started the works, with his brother Alex on drums and the talented singer Alessandra Amata, on his new band called Violet Sun. The debut album, Loneliness In Supremacy, was released in 2010.

In 2014 was high time for Dario to turn back to PLATENS and second album, Out Of The World, saw day of light. Now, after seven years from the release of the second studio album, PLATENS is finally back with its strongest effort so far: Of Poetry And Silent Mastery – a masterful blending of melodic rock sound, AOR oriented melodies and clever heavy influences.

Platens‘ Dario Grillo hosts this week’s show.

Tune in at 15:00 and 21:00 CET/ 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. EST this Friday to hear the show!

Petar is a screener here at Metal Express Radio and makes sure that the new music we play on the radio is pure quality! He's been surrounded by music since birth. Both his parents graduated from music academy and then spent many years teaching in a music-profile high school. Petar himself discovered Rock music when he was a little kid back in the late 80s. His dad had lots of tracks on tapes, including Rainbow (DIO period). Later he and his brother bought some audio cassettes of The Beatles, Queen, Europe, AC/DC, etc. What really made him believe in Rock forever was the Deep Purple's live album Come Hell Or High Water (1994). Nowadays his preferences in Rock/Metal vary from Muddy Waters to Pantera, all the way through any sub genres you might think of.
