I Am Who I Am is the latest release from Lithuanian Progressive Metal band Songs From Black Spirit. I Am Who I Am is a double record, with disc one featuring 10 tracks, and disc two with 9, totaling 88 minutes of music.

Songs From Black Spirit seems to be a side project for Vitalis “Don Vito” Kairiūkštis, lead vocalist of Spicy Bits Of Scandal.  Both bands share “SBS” as an abbreviation, and all weblinks and social media for Songs From Black Spirit lead to Spicy Bits Of Scandal. All lead and backing vocals were done by Kairiūkštis.  The rest of the album is credited to “friends and world-known guests from around the world.”

The two records run the gamut of styles. Volume one features “Love Is Blind”, a Queensryche flavored Progressive track, followed by “Avalon”, a galloping mix of Thrash and Epic Metal.  Also included is “My Devotion”, a heavily blues-influenced song, that gives way to “Attack”, which features growled vocals.

Volume two kicks off with “My Way Home”,  a very Melodic and Progressive song with a big hook chorus.  “Please Come Back”, track 2, follows suit, before shifting gears again to “World Is Turning”, a very NWOBHM influenced effort.  “Whore Of Babylon” is a very heavy tune, followed up with the only ballad, “Chasing Starlight”.

Overall, I Am Who I Am is a very diverse collection of songs within the Heavy Metal genre.  It is well-produced and features stellar performances.  The sheer volume of material almost guarantees something for everyone.

Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
