Semendria is the latest release from Serbian Metal band Alogia. The current lineup features vocalist Nikola Mijić, founding guitarists Srđan Branković and his brother Miroslav Branković, keyboardist Vadimir Đedović, bassist Vladimir Ranisavljević and drummer Srđan Golubica. Semendria also includes guest appearances by Mark Boals (Royal Hunt, Malmsteen), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Labyrinth) and Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest).

Semendria is a very progressive sounding record. It is heavy but very melodic. There are some interesting instrument choices on this record.. There are some church organ, flute, and violin parts, along with some classical and eastern influences, making for some eclectic sounds. Lyrically, the record is partially a concept album about ancient Roman cities. There are also songs like “Like A Fire” and ” Can’t Bring You Down” that are not. Those are Neoclassical metal style rockers that stand alone. “From East To West” is another standout track. It has a pronounced Eastern influence, some unusual instrumentation, and a very progressive meter. Although it is an instrumental track, there is a clear Dream Theater influence and it is a really interesting piece.

Semendria is well done, and well produced. It is a little on the short side, with 9 songs clocking in at about 34 minutes of music, but it is worth a listen for fans of Progressive Metal, Neoclassical Metal, Melodic Metal, and of course, fans of Alogia.

Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
