SUICIDE BOMBERS – Suicide Idols

Hailing from Norway, the Suicide Bombers are back at it with their 3rd release entitled Suicide Idols.  Much can be said over the years in Metal and Hard Rock about what constitutes a successful band headed for sweet longevity, but by and large any band’s 3rd release is often their defining album to catapult them into the future.  Lay an egg on that 3rd album and the future is often bleak, however, if a band can knock out its best work by that 3rd release, then there often is “something there” that will set the stage for immortality.

Suicide Bombers fall into that 2nd category, and Suicide Idols is indeed a solid album … and their best work to date.  Chris Damien Doll, coming prior from the Punk Metal band called Trashcan Darlings, is the leader and predominant songwriter within the band, and also mans the microphone.  Although not as Punk as the Trashcan Darlings, the Suicide Bombers do have a few Punk elements within their sound … along with a touch of Glam … but by and large they are just a good Hard Rock/Melodic Metal band with occasional Blues-edged riffs.

The odd thing (perhaps) with Suicide Idols is that the running order of the songs is such that their strongest material is in the latter half of the album.  In other words, Suicide Idols starts out strong, but gets progressively better as it plugs along.  There are 10 full-length tracks, but the best tracks (arguably) begin with Tracks 6 and 7, respectively, “We Got Tonight” and “Keep An Eye On You”.

If you enjoy good Hard Rock with catchy riffs, sing-along choruses, and a few twists along the way, then this Suicide Bombers CD is something you should check out.
