EDENBRIDGE – The Great Momentum

The Great Momentum, Austrian Symphonic Metal outfit Edenbridge’s 8th studio album, will appeal to the more pedestrian fans of acts like Nightwish, Xandria, Dark Moor and perhaps Crystal Viper.

What the album lacks in inspiration and originality, it makes up for with mirror-perfect polished production, lush arrangements and performances that would rival the biggest big budget film scores. With the exception of the speedy album opener “Shiantara”, most of the tracks fall into the mid-tempo or ballad category where they can benefit the most from the thick mixes and production techniques. While this makes The Great Momentum a very accessible album, it may leave some of the more hardcore fans wishing for a few more uptempo numbers. Edenbridge is a band that fits in, perhaps too well, and may continue to be overlooked by Metal fans thanks to its lack of aggression and energy, despite the band’s top-of-the-line production and execution.
