As Thin Lizzy members, these veterans are on their third release under the name Black Star Riders. Heavy Fire hasn’t deviated much from their first two records, but it does lean toward straightforward hits and away from any creative risks. The result is sing-along Rock with very clear lyrics and lots of fun from all band members. Whereas a lot of bands tour to support their album, this LP sounds as if it was released to support their love of performance.

Ricky Warwick’s voice projects quite well and he receives backing female singers on a few of the songs. Other instrumentation is not complicated, but perfectly executed … good solos and good tone. “When The Night Comes In” has all of the above. If you’ve heard Black Star Riders before, Heavy Fire will be a welcome addition to their growing discography. If this is your first exposure to the band, here is an example of how experienced musicians effortlessly make good music.

About Jude Cossey 40 Articles
Jude was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio, living in Taiwan but originally from the great state of Ohio, USA. He first got into music when a fellow weirdo in his catholic high school needed someone to play guitar with. They jammed on some Grunge Rock, but soon he got hooked on the blisteringly-fast shredding of Randy Rhoads and other greats. Later, he bought Metallica's Ride The Lightning as his first album purchase. During that time, his friends and him would end up at local Metal shows. He played in some bands himself as well.
