Existance founder Julian Izard says he is determined to keep the ’80s Metal spirit alive. Breaking The Rock exemplifies that claim as it lathers you with leather and hairspray. High-note screams, guitars with palm-muted crunch, and impressive drumming by Nicolas Martineau. This LP has ten solid tracks for anyone sharing Izard’s mindset. One may mistake this band for a supergroup of Heavy Metal greats — it’s as if Sebastian Bach joined with members from Saxon or Judas Priest.

Yearning to capture a sound of the past could be a mark against originality, but there is the adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. This band from France has found their niche by following the style of Metal’s heyday and doing what they love. They are true and dedicated to this sound and have made a great album. Look to the track “All Is On Fire” for some quintessential Existance.

About Jude Cossey 40 Articles
Jude was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio, living in Taiwan but originally from the great state of Ohio, USA. He first got into music when a fellow weirdo in his catholic high school needed someone to play guitar with. They jammed on some Grunge Rock, but soon he got hooked on the blisteringly-fast shredding of Randy Rhoads and other greats. Later, he bought Metallica's Ride The Lightning as his first album purchase. During that time, his friends and him would end up at local Metal shows. He played in some bands himself as well.
