( votes)If you visit the website of Southern California’s Budderside you will find a music video featuring women boxing and having pillow fights in their underwear. Fun! Yet the ones wearing the most eyeliner … are the band themselves. But, Budderside doesn’t limit it to the Glam thing. Budderside’s self-titled album is all over the place with Funk, Pop, and Acoustic Rock. One song called “Ska Bra” actually has a swing-dancing groove with saxophone accompaniment. Credit must be given for the sheer creative diversity on this record.
When a bubbly harmonizing duet sings the words “kill any man that stands in my way”, the intent of Budderside becomes as baffling as their style. Shall it be named Poser Rock? Frat Pop? This album sounds like it would appeal to Blink 182 or Sum 41 fans. What’s even stranger is that this album was actually produced by Motörhead’s label and features a cameo by Phil Campbell himself. Despite the “Buddery” softness, there is a unique display of talent on this album. And, if you’re a really open-minded person, this may be your next guilty pleasure.
