MAGICK TOUCH – Heads Have Got To Rock ‘N’ Roll

Heads Have Got To Rock ‘N’ Roll is the third album from Norway based Rock And Roll band Magick Touch. Formed in 2016, the current lineup features bassist/vocalist Christer Ottesen, drummer Bård Heavy Nordvik, and guitarist HK Rein. Magick Touch definitely has a 70’s rock flavor and a very clear Thin Lizzy influence. The record has a fair amount of era-correct muddiness, but the music is well performed. The songwriting is solid, and the musical performances are on point. There is a good mix of radio-friendly songs and deep cuts, and even some fairly progressive rock styling on Heads Have Got To Rock’ N’ Roll. The opening track, “(This Isn’t) Your First Rodeo” is one of the more radio-ready tracks, with a big hook chorus and enough slop left in to really convey a raw 70’s vibe. “To The Limit” has a Thin Lizzy meets Kiss flavor. “Love Is A Heart Disease” gives a Velvet Revolver vibe. “Bad Decision” is one of the stronger tracks and portrays the strongest Thin Lizzy vibe. “Phantom Friend” is one of the more interesting tracks, delving into some deep blue, progressive vibes, and experimental tones. Magick Touch has put together an enjoyable record overall. Fans of their previous work, fans of 70’s Rock, Thin Lizzy, early Kiss, and that sort of raw bluesy rock should check out Heads Have Got To Rock’ N’ Roll. MAGICK TOUCH – Blades, Chains, Whips & Fire

With an unexpected and hard to classify mix of Hard Rock and Power Metal, Magick Touch’s second album Blades, Chains, Whips & Fire will please fans of RIOT, Thin Lizzy, and the New Wave of European Glam Metal bands like Santa Cruz, Aerodyne, and Crazy Lixx. The album title, along with cover artwork that features lions, tigers, panthers, and a cloaked, torch wielding wizard, is almost enough to guarantee a good time. The music within does a good job of living up to its visual presentation. This is a band with a unique sound, but not so unique that it will have a hard time finding an audience, rather there is enough width and sonic depth to Magick Touch that most Hard Rock and Classic Metal fans will find something they can latch on to. If there is any knock against this collection of songs, it would be that sometimes the band gets lost in their hunt for originality. Tracks like “Electrick Sorcery” have a directionless quality to them that is not helpful. Despite this misstep, it’s still impressive that Magick Touch has managed to carve out a signature sound with only two albums under their belt. Pop this in, crank it up and get ready to feel the touch! Highlights include the album opener “Under The Gun”, lead single “The Great Escape”, and the darkly inspired “After The Fire”.
