New England Death Metal band Fuming Mouth are set to release their second album entitled Last Day Of Sun on November 3rd. Fuming Mouth’s vocalist/guitarist Mark Whelan took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about the upcoming album, their upcoming North American tour with Devil Master, overcoming personal hardships, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Your band, Fuming Mouth are set to release their second album entitled Last Day Of Sun on November 3rd, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Whelan: This is the one. If you’re a fan of Fuming Mouth I promise you, you will never go hungry again.

MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your second album?

Whelan: It was huge. Before the first album was even released the intro riff, the title track riff, and the album title for Last Day of Sun were already created. More work and less fucks were given than ever before.

MER: You’ve released a song from the album entitled “The Silence Beyond Life”, what kind of feedback have you received?

Whelan: It’s been crazy. I’ll read DM’s from people saying they’re crying and listening to it over and over again and then I’ll read people saying it’s the worst thing they’ve ever heard. I don’t really know what to make of it.

MER: This Fall, you’ll be touring North America with Devil Master, and Final Gasp, what are your expectations on the upcoming tour?

Whelan: It’s the best tour you can see this fall because our tour has all different genres of music all while being sewn into the tapestry of metal, hardcore, and punk. It’s not a commodity and it’s not a tour where we’re desperately trying to sell out venues. None of us care about shit other than playing.

MER: What do you see as plans for you and the rest of the band after the tour?

Whelan: We’re going to hit the UK. It’s long overdue. My mom was born and raised in Scotland so it’s about time I return to my motherland.

MER: Is there a certain song you hope to play live yet that you haven’t and why?

Whelan: “Respect & Blasphemy” because it’s the hardest and fastest song. My heart races when I think about playing it.

MER: Who do you hope to tour with that you haven’t yet and why?

Whelan: I want to tour with Spinebreaker. It’s members of Gulch, Sunami, etc. Bay shit. They just put out a great EP.

MER: What have been some of your favorite releases of 2023?

Whelan: Impest – Bone Pit is my favorite death metal demo of the year. Listen to the song “Bone Pit” off it first. Intensive Care Unit Sand & Gravel cassette is great Hardcore. The OG version of “I.C.U” off the first demo is awesome but the new super long version on Sand & Gravel is so much better.

MER: You’ve had to overcome some hardships in your personal life, how does it feel to overcome that?

Whelan: It feels like I got a second chance at life. I’m really grateful.

MER: How do you feel about the history of the Metal scene in New England?

Whelan: I’m always torn about this. I see what Florida did in the 90s and I wish a scene ilke that could exist up here. The Massachusetts metal scene has always been awful or awesome. We have the best hardcore though so that’s cool.

MER: What are your hopes for the band’s future?

Whelan: I hope we can keep living in the moment and playing
