Back For The Attack

There is a very short list of Heavy Metal vocalists from the 80s that have such a distinct voice that they are completely unmistakable, and an even shorter list of vocalists from that era that not only still create and release new material, but have actually improved with age. Udo Dirkschneider (ex-Accept founder) is one of those rare singers, and his new album U.D.O.Game Over is an excellent example of how great talent can get better and better with each new release. The lineup includes guitarists Andrey Smirnov and Fabian Dee Dammers, with Tilen Hudrap on bass guitar and 2nd generation metal royalty Sven Dirkschneider on the drums.

Metal With A Message

Game Over features a whopping 16 tracks that have a definite theme, as explained by Udo: “We all, no matter where we live, just have this one planet. If something happens on it, it always has international implications.” Global climate change is one of the topics that the band explores on the album. “Floods in Germany or the fires in southern Europe and Turkey have shown how urgent it is to do something,.. If mankind doesn’t rethink some things, it could have drastic consequences.” “Kids and Guns” touches on another global issue:  “The world is also increasingly having a peace problem. International arms trade and private arms possession are increasing. In many countries, there is an increasing number of shootings among minors, including in schools” explains Dirkschneider.

Final Notes

One of the great things that U.D.O. has going for it is the winning formulae of veteran talent working with a young generation of excellent musicians. As with everything that the band puts out, Game Over is a beautiful sounding production that has lots of punch, catchy hooks, driving riffs and killer musicianship from top to bottom. Fans will love the classic crunch and straight in the face punch of Game Over, with song after song of headbanging heaven. Classic Metal fans, Accept and U.D.O. fans, and anyone who loves hard driving metal should definitely add U.D.O. – Game Over to their collection.
