Live at 50
If you only know Foghat for “Slow Ride,” then you are doing yourself a disservice. Foghat’s career spans 50 years, 17 studio albums, multiple live releases, and thousands of live performances. The membership might have changed over the years, but Foghat’s signature bluesy guitar-driven Rock hasn’t. Drummer Roger Earl has been there from the beginning and recruited vocalist/guitarist Charlie Huhn in 2000, shortly after the passing original Foghat front man Dave Peverett. Huhn has had a decorated career with such acts as Ted Nugent, Victory, Axel Rudi Pell, and Humble Pie.
Huhn’s studio work with Foghat, 2010’s Last Train Home and 2016’s Under The Influence, are hidden gems in both the band’s and Charlie’s career. On July 16, 2021, to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Foghat are gearing up to release the 2CD/DVD set 8 Days on the Road. The set was recorded on November 17, 2019 at Daryl’s House Club in Pawling, NY. The intimate setting makes for a warm and inviting experience for the listener. I had the chance to speak with Charlie Huhn ahead of the album’s release.
