Die By My Sword is the debut full-length record from Spanish Heavy Metal band War Dogs. War dogs definitely have a NWOBHM flavor on this release and cite such classic bands as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden amongst their influences. The first 2 tracks released are the title track, “Die By My Sword”, and “The Shark (featuring Bryan “Hellroadie” Patrick)”, with the rest to be released January 9 when the record releases.

During the first half of 2019, War Dogs recorded Die by My Sword at the Blackstage Studios in Alicante, and was then mixed in Sweden by Olof Wikstand from Enforcer. The song “The Shark” is a tribute to Mark Sheldon (rip) of Manilla Road and also features the collaboration of the current band’s vocalist Bryan Patrick. Overall, the record is good.

The production really has a vintage flavor to it, very dry and raw. Die By My Sword could’ve been a much bigger sounding record, but the choice to leave it raw may appeal to fans of old school NWOBHM. Despite a few sloppy points here and there, the material is pretty solid. There is nothing really exceptional here, but it is a decent release that fans of War Dogs, and NWOBHM should check out.

Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
