Murder In High Heels is the debut record from Platinum Overdose, an American Sleaze Metal/Glam Metal band. Platinum Overdose founder, bassist, producer, and label owner Lance V began with a handful of songs co-written by an unnamed, now deceased friend, and a desire to see those songs brought to fruition. He recruited Matt Thorr (Rough Cutt) on rhythm guitar, Steve Philbrook (Brass Kitten) on vocals, and Rick Mead (Syre ) for lead guitar. When those songs took shape, a decision was made to do a full-length record that would capture all the vibe and guitar-driven energy of 80s hard rock in the vein of Ratt, Dokken, and Mötley Crüe.

Murder In High Heels is a good sounding record. Well produced, and filled with solid performances, the record delivers sonically. Philbrook has a great voice for this style of music, and with the exception of some passages of less than interesting lead guitar, the bases are well covered. The songs are a bit formulaic, and some of the lyrics feel a little contrived, but overall, Murder In High Heels does what it set out to do. The opening track, “Pretty In Punk”, is a classic ‘speeding down the highway’ driving track. Other standout tracks include “Need Your Love”, “Red Light Rhythm” and “Young And Wild”. Fans of Glam, Sleaze, 80s rock and Hair Metal will want to check this out.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
