Black Coffee is the new release from Danish Sleaze Rock band Junkyard Drive. Citing influences such as Guns N Roses and AC/DC, Junkyard Drive has put together 11 tracks of Hair Metal infused rock and roll swagger. One can’t help but compare lead singer Kristian Johansen to Myles Kennedy, and stylistically the band captures the late 80s aesthetic of the sunset strip nicely. With lead guitarist Birk, guitarist Ben Hoyer, bassist Tim Meldal, and drummer Claus Munch rounding out the lineup, Black Coffee is well produced, and well performed. Nothing groundbreaking here, just Bluesy, Sleazy Rock and Roll.

“Backseat Baby” has a distinct Mr. Big vibe, while “Way Too Long” could be a Conspirators track. “Wasted Nights” has a kind of Robert Mason Warrant flavor with a touch of Dead Daisies. There is a little something for everyone on Black Coffee, with lots of straight ahead rock, and several downtempo and acoustic based tracks. The one downfall is that much of the lead guitar is rather lackluster. Not bad. Just a little uninteresting. This is guitar music, and the songs are riffy and hook laden, but the lead stand out as not up to par with the rest of the record. Overall, a good listen though, and definitely worth checking out.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
