Irish Thrash outfit Psykosis’ debut album Welcome To The Psyko Ward is 100% Old School Thrash Metal. Fans of Annihilator, Coroner, Overkill and Testament will love the well-honed, down-picking chops and gang vocals of Grant Walsh. While the 7 track collection lands somewhere between an EP and a typical full length album, the overall release displays a purposeful and deliberate (albeit simple) execution. The album’s production quality could be better, but considering the straight-forward nature of the songs, the bare bones sound doesn’t really get in the way.

Although there’s no new ground being broken, Welcome To The Psyko Ward would serve well as an introduction to the Thrash Metal genre for fans who are not already familiar with Thrash Metal’s ’80s roots. Highlights include, “Hunt To Kill”, “Driller Killer” and “Mortar Platoon”.
