Gary Hughes and his band Ten are back on deck with an album entitled Isla De Muerta, which translates to “Island Of The Dead”. As with prior Ten releases, the music is Melodic Hard Rock with Progressive and Epic qualities, and Isla De Muerta’s theme revolves around Pirate legends and folklore.  If you’re a fan of Ten you’ll know that Hughes tends to fill his songs with plenty of lyrics and stories, and a number of tracks eclipse the 6-minute mark.  Overall, this latest Ten release is an “easy” listen, with occasional catchy lyrics and choruses and plenty of familiarity.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
