Look what the cat dragged in! Quireboys return for another go, figuring the time is right for a comeback. Their classic debut forgotten, and all those high profile features (Kerrang, Metal Hammer etc.) long gone, they’ve set out to settle the score. And to prove their point, the album boasts the title: This Is Rock’n’Roll. Nothing more, nothing less…
To be honest with you, the album is pretty good, but it lacks the nerve and the desperation of their first record. And those are pretty important ingredients for this kind of music. Somehow their songs sounds forced, and you get the impression that they are trying too hard to be, well… the Quireboys. There is a couple of gems anyway; Turn away, Six degrees, Come on, all get the thumbs up. But overall, this is a disappointing album. Too bad (ref: Faces)
Highlight: Turn away.
