Up and coming metal band Chained Saint are showing no signs of slowing down having recently released a new single entitled “1000 Tons”. Chained Saint’s guitarist Ethan Kahn spoke with Metal Express Radio about their new single, working with William DuVall of Alice In Chains, challenges of being a younger band, and more. Check out the chat below!
Metal Express Radio: Your band, Chained Saint, just released a new song entitled “1000 Tons”, what can you tell fans about your latest single?
Kahn: If you want to know what Chained Saint will begin sounding like moving forward, listen to “1000 Tons”. This single mixes both old and new influences, alongside an anthemic feel for those who feel crushed by the weight of the world and the pressure in their lives and to know that there is no stopping. We will persevere.
MER: Do you feel this song gives fans an idea on what to expect from your next album?
Kahn: This single is definitely a change from our debut release. It showcases our current influences and the sound we wish to segue into.
MER: How did it come about choosing this song to be the first new song for everyone to hear?
Kahn: This single was the first song written after the release of our debut album Blindside, and was actually started during the ending of the recording process. We would jam the intro between takes of the album to further expand the song, which eventually became “1000 Tons”. We chose this song because of how it showcases our current sound, alongside the sounds we wish to implement moving forward.
MER: You have a busy schedule this year with some notable festivals across North America, what are your expectation with your touring schedule?
Kahn: We just got off the road from a 15 date headline tour, now looking forward to August 15th at the Whisky a Go Go and festival dates such as Rocklahoma, Louder than Life, and Warped Tour in Orlando.
MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?
Kahn: We would love to tour with current bands such as Drain, as they are doing exactly what we wish to do. Play great tunes and have a good time.
MER: Where do you hope to play live and why?
Kahn: We all have a shared dream of playing The Metro in Chicago to pay homage to Metallica’s set back in 83’. The live video of that set inspired all of us early on.
MER: For being a new band, you’ve already received praise from legends in the genre like Rob Halford (Judas Priest/Fight), and have worked with William DuVall (Alice In Chains) on your previous record, what has it been like to have all these experiences?
Kahn: It has been an honor. Working with such a professional and seeing his work ethic really rubbed off on us. He expected nothing less than perfection, and so we had to push ourselves to deliver. Overall, having the opportunity really changed our perspective and makes us strive to want more.
MER: What are some of the challenges you’ve encountered having Chained Saint take off while you’re at a younger age?
Kahn: The biggest challenge would probably be balancing both the band and school. Having to fly out or miss classes/homework because of our commitments can be troubling but nonetheless have been dealt with to allow me to do what I love. Although, sometimes having to do homework on the way to the gig or in the studio isn’t as fun.
MER: What have been some of your favorite releases of 2025?
Kahn: A notable one for me would be the Pain of Truth/Sunami split EP. Although it’s only four songs, I simply can’t get enough. Another favorite new release would be the “No Way Back” single by Volcano.
MER: What are your hopes for your band’s future?
Kahn: To hit the ceiling, and then push it further. There is no stopping us.
