London rock band Calva Louise are set to release their fourth album entitled Edge Of The Abyss on July 11th. The band’s singer Jess Allanic spoke with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, building a strong following with a DIY approach, her hopes to tour with Pandeulum, and more.

Metal Express Radio: Your band, Calva Louise, are set to release your new album entitled Edge Of The Abyss on July 11th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Allanic: It was DIY endeavor as we recorded it by ourselves where we live, but also, we had the chance to work with amazing artists like Gareth McGrillen, Mazare and Dean McCarty that helped us evolve the recordings as far and as fast as we could, we felt very grateful to have worked with such an incredible team of people.

MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your fourth album with your band?

Allanic: It was difficult and as DIY as it has always been, because we were trying to do as much as we could with the quality of the equipment we had at our disposal. But even though the mixing and mastering was done remotely with Gareth, Mazare and Dean, we were all giving our best and worked amazingly as a team.

MER: You recently released a song from the album entitled “Impeccable”; do you feel that song represents the album well as well as the other songs you’ve released?

Allanic I think so! It depends on how you look at an album, I think of “Impeccable” as a chapter which still represents the story.

MER: What do you see as plans for you and your band to promote the album?

Allanic: We plan to create more teasers that explain the story, the music videos being the gate that links both story and music.

MER: Is there anyone you hope to tour with and why?

Allanic: There are many artists we would love to tour with, Pendulum being one of them as we are huge fans!

MER: Having such a unique sound, has there ever been an audience you had to work on winning over?

Allanic: We think we are constantly working on winning people over, which we feel is to be expected considering how strange the mix in our music is thanks to our backgrounds, and we really appreciate that it is part of our journey.

MER: You’ve been able to build a following throughout the U.K. with a DIY approach, how is it looking at how far your band has come?

Allanic: We are happy our efforts have brought us where we are, and we keep developing more each time.

MER: Out of your band’s four albums, what is one you would suggest to a new fan and why?

Allanic: Edge of The Abyss as it is the fourth draft of our story, each album represents where we were at the time and EOTA is the most accomplished thanks to our perseverance and new gained life experiences.
